Insulator/Asbestos Worker

Nature of Work: Install all types of insulation products, from insulation to jacketing, for a variety of applications. These applications include piping, duct work, breechings, tanks and vessels, boilers, precipitators, baghouses, turbines, heat exchangers, removable pump/valve covers, pvc and metal jacketing, flfestop, and much more.

Physical Demands: Light to medium work: should be able to lift, carry, push or pull up to 50 pounds; frequent lifting or carrying of up to 50 pounds. Should be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, feel and see. Also some work in high areas.

Base Wage for Trained Worker:
Commercial Journeyman: $31.45 per hour
Commercial Apprentice: 50% of current J. W. Scale

Benefits under Union: Health and welfare, vacation, pension, apprenticeship fund, industry promotion, pension (National), IRA, Benevolent Fund, Mortuary fund, and overtime opportunities.

Working Conditions: Inside and outside, with exposure to excessive noise, dust, and other insulation (fiberglass) particles, which if endured daily could cause bodily harm. Must work from ladders, scaffolds, and sometimes from awkward positions.

Training Duration: Minimum of four (4) years of night school. Total minimum of 516 hours of classroom training in apprenticeship program. Classes consist of math, layout, fabrication, blueprint drawing and reading, supervisor skills, and various other classes. On the Job trammg totalmg 6400 hours.

Applicants must meet the following requirements

NO EXCEPTIONS

Be at least 18 years of age.
Possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Provide copies of the following documents at the time of making applicaiton:
A) Birth Certificate
B) High School Diploma or G.E.D.
C) Military Release Papers (DD-214, if applicable)
Pass a basic math exam administered by the Committee on the day of applicaiton.
Pass an aptitude test. (Dates to be assigned by apprenticeship office)
Appear before J.A.T.C. Board for an oral interview.
Those applicaitons selected are subject to a Substance Abuse test prior to bein admitted into the Apprenticeship Program.
